When planning a trip to Yosemite in August, you know its going to be hot! We made sure to head out at the break of dawn each morning. While rolling out of bed that early was difficult, getting to see the sun peeking out and beating the crowds made the bleary eyes well worth it!
When you first enter Yosemite, you are traveling through the Valley floor. Mountains loom on all sides of you and creeks wind their way through the trees. This is where you can set up camp in one of Yosemite’s many campsites or check into one of the few hotels. Yosemite has a large grocery store that has pretty much anything you need if you unpack your tent and find you’ve forgotten some items. There is also an Ansel Adams photography gallery & an art center where you can take classes, a history museum, and cafe. Options abound for those who are uninterested in hiking including fishing & horseback riding. It does get very crowded in Yosemite. Everyone wants to see the natural beauty! Be sure to check Yosemite’s Traffic Predictions before heading in!
For those who are enjoying the Valley floor but are eyeing the looming mountains above them, I recommend starting with the Mist Trail. You can drive over to the start or take one of the many shuttles running through the park. Keep in mind that during peak months, parking vanishes within the first few hours of the park opening. We opted for the shuttle which was a fun way to travel past the extensive campgrounds. The start of the trail runs alongside a creek.
The cool of the morning combined with the soft sounds of the creek gurgling by provide the perfect place to unwind.
The water runoff has trickled down from the powerful waterfall that is ahead of us. It is hard to imagine this delicate stream as a charging waterfall.
As you hike along, you get little glimpses of the beauty that we are about to see.
After walking along peaceful river creeks, it is shocking & awe inspiring to come around the corner to see the waterfall tumbling over the rock.
Even the local wildlife took a moment to soak in the views!
