I recently discovered a new term: Urban Hiking. Have you guys heard of this? It basically gives a name to one of my favorite things to do….get out and explore your city on foot. The idea is that you lace up your sneakers, hike through local neighborhoods, head up to vista points, and get a unique view of your city. This gives you the chance to see new houses, fun doors & mailboxes, and gorgeous views. I am lucky enough to live in San Francisco with tall hills so you really get a workout, but every city has hidden parks that you can find. Map it out, park farther away than you normally would, and hit the pavement!

8 Urban Hiking Tips for a Calorie-Burning Walking Adventure
Last Sunday, Ben and I decided to hike up Billy Goat Hill in San Francisco. I’d been hearing about this place for years and always wanted to visit! They have a swing at the top that makes it feel like you are swinging out over the city! This has been on my wishlist of things to do for so long. Isn’t it funny how the sites closest to you are always the last place you visit? I have friends who have lived in San Francisco their whole lives and have never been to Alcatraz! (More on that later!)
We started in the Mission to share a burrito from La Taqueria (on Thrillist’s list of Best Burritos in America) then headed through the neighborhoods up to the tiny little park of Billy Goat Hill. Those stairs were steep!
Unfortunately, when we got to the top we found that the swing had been cut down. I turned to Google for answers and discovered that it happens frequently and regulars recommend bringing your own swing. It’s sad that some people have to ruin it for other, but here is a photo of fellow blogger Well Travelled Wife who got the chance to swing!
These hills make you work for your view!
How beautiful is this city?
