Welcome to the final installment of the Summer BBQ & Road Trip series! We wrapped up our yummy meal on Tuesday so today I’m sharing the final in our road trip series, Santa Barbara. One of the most popular beach cities in California is undoubtedly Santa Barbara. It is in close proximity to Los Angeles but maintains a small university town feel to it making it a hot spot for people looking to hit the road.
What to Do:
1. The Beach!!!! Run, surf, or just soak of some sun and take in the gorgeous views.
2. Wine Tasting – there are some amazing wineries just outside of Santa Barbara. While you are in town, take advantage of all of the wineries that have tasting rooms available.
3. The Pier – pretend to wander down for the restaurants and shops, but really you’re there for the view of the coast.
4. Shop – everything is so walkable in downtown Santa Barbara. Lace up those sneakers and head down State street where you can chose from large chain stores or local hot spots!
5. Check out the gorgeous UC Santa Barbara campus.
Where to Eat:
The Palace Grill
I am a sucker for a good Cajun restaurant. That must be the Southerner in me! The Palace Grill did not disappoint. It has a historic New Orleans charm to it. The servers even wear the white service coats. I had the crawfish poboy which was delicious. It was very flavorful without being to heavy as some can be. It comes with these delicious little potato wedges. I ordered the beignets, but wish I’d passed. They were hot and buried under powdered sugar but were quite thick and hard, not fluffy as I expected. The bread pudding that my friend ordered was incredible. I know why they are known for it! It melted in your mouth and had an amazing cream to pour on top. It would be worth coming back just for the dessert!
Where to do some Wine Tasting:
Santa Barbara Winery
I honestly almost bought one of every single wine that I tried. As is, I walked out with five bottles and a box of wine filled chocolates. The wine server had an amazing wealth of knowledge and gave a great background on all of the wines. They were very reasonably priced. The tasting is $10 and you get to keep your wine glass and they give you a little package of breadsticks. I really enjoyed the whites (as usual) but what really amazed me were how much I also enjoyed the reds. They have a great shop filled with wine accessories and gift items to look at while enjoying your wine.
Wine tasting paired with cupcake tasting…I’m sold! We had the sparkling flight with three cupcakes. It was really unique to get the cupcakes with the wine and who cares if it was 11am! Cupcakes count as breakfast right? I was drawn in initially by the patio seating but fell in love with the fireside seating inside. Being just blocks away from the beach made it that much better. If I lived in the area, I would join their wine club and hang out here frequently.
