A budget friendly resort option on St. Lucia is Rex St. Lucia. It is just down the way from Sandals Grande, so much so that you can often hear the music & the partying going on at Sandals Grande. The beach is the same gorgeous beach. The resort is all inclusive but is smaller with only one restaurant and bar. There are several Rex resorts all right next to each other so make sure that you go to the correct one. Our cab drive accidentally dropped us off at the wrong one. Luckily we were right next door! One of them is currently closed while they build a new one, but there are still several Rex options.
The drive to the hotel took us through the capital town of Castries were we saw huge cruise ships docked to Reduit Beach. We were a little early so we walked around & ducked into Spinnakers Restaurant, a beach side restaurant full of locals. It was fun to see a different side to the island, other than being tucked away behind the walls of a large resort.
The resort is simple but clean & has a gorgeous beach. We opted to stay here for a few nights because we had all day excursions that kept us away from our hotel from dawn until after dark. It didn’t make sense to pay for the high end resorts when we wouldn’t be around to take advantage of them. We even left so early that the breakfast restaurant wasn’t open yet. We notified the front desk upon arrival & they kindly boxed up some food for us to take as we left! We were also grateful for the outdoor buffet with live music. After a long day of adventuring we were ready for something easy!
A room covered in flowers was a lovely surprise upon arrival!
