One thing you can’t miss when visiting Boston & strolling through the Boston Commons park, is the Massachusetts State House. This gold domed building is the state capitol & seat of government for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It’s right on top of Beacon Hill & it’s glittering dome overlooks the beautiful Boston Commons. During WWII the dome was black to prevent attracting attention during blackouts. In 1997, it was re-gilded in 23k gold!

The historic Park Street Church, right on the edge of the Boston Commons & one block from the Massachusetts State House, is a historic stop on the Freedom Trail. It held the honor of being the United State’s tallest building until 1828. In 1949 Billy Graham’s first transcontinental mid-century crusade began at Park Street Church.

The frozen Boston Commons didn’t stop us from strolling through. We took in the sights and ice skaters. The frozen lake looked inviting for someone’s dog to roam around on, while the ducks flocked to a tiny melted portion.

I had my boots ready from Iceland and was eager to use them in the snow! I felt a little silly walking around the city in them, but they definitely kept my tootsies warm!

Happy ducks in the park found the one melted spot in the pond to paddle around in!

At least until they saw us coming! Then they jumped out, wishfully hoping that we had some treats for them!
