As you know Ben and I just celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary! We have really moved away from gifting each other things that will fill up our place and moved towards giving each other gifts that are an experience that we can enjoy together. To celebrate this year, we headed up to Yountville & St. Helena in Napa to soak up the sun & enjoy an amazing private wine tasting. I was really excited to partner up with IfOnly for this experience. Each experience donates a portion of the purchase to charity and I was so honored to be able support Tipping Point, the charity our IfOnly experience with V Wine Cellar supported. Its a nonprofit that has helped support nearly 365,000 people with education, employment, & housing. A gift where I get to drink wine & other people benefit? How is this a thing? Let’s do this always!
Yountville was a hoppin’ place when we arrived, which meant that we had to park at the farthest end of Main Street. It gave us the wonderful chance to stroll through Yountville before arriving at V Wine Cellar. I was a little star struck as we walked by the famous French Laundry. Even the flowering vines wanted to climb up the balcony to sample the food! Our private tasting with IfOnly at the V Wine Cellar, was inside the V Marketplace right on Main Street, home to several art galleries, a chocolatier, and some pretty delicious looking restaurants. We were off to a good start! We were greeted & led to our private tasting by a winemaker who made it his personal goal to introduce us to wines that we had never even heard of. Challenge accepted! Boris, our guide was actually the winemaker who made the first wine that he served us, an Albarino from Waterfall Winery. Though we tasted many unique and original wines (and picked up several bottles to take home), the Albarino was our favorite. It was really crisp and light, but full of flavor. He blushed at our awe over the wine & really honed in on our personal preferences, taking care to select wines tailored to us. It was so much fun! It was a really different experience than being at a single winery where there is only their wine to try. All of the wines are unique to the Napa, Sonoma, and Mendicino counties & can’t be found anywhere else. Several were small batches where only 300 bottles were made.
The cozy lounge beckoned us after our tasting. The Warriors game on TV drew plenty of spectators who enjoy #wnation with their wine! It was quite warm outside (well warm for the Bay Area) and the cool wine cellar felt amazing to relax in.
The warm temperatures left the patio abandoned until the early evening, but the vineyard views of the nearby Domaine Chandon made for a relaxing spot to soak up the sun.
