Last month I shared the last 7 months of Baby James growing up in partnership with Cord Blood Registry (check out “10 Things to Know About Preserving Newborn Stem Cells”). I realized that I never shared his newborn photos or my maternity photos on the blog! Pretty much as soon as we found out we were pregnant, I started researching photographers. My most prized possessions are my photo albums. I love looking back through amazing memories. That has only intensified with our new arrival. I knew we were going to Paris so I reached out immediately to Lindsey of Pictours Paris who I’d wanted to use on our first trip to Paris, but just ran out of time. She was expecting herself & only doing limited photo shoots, but booked us anyways. It was amazing to share in this journey with her and I LOVE our Paris Baby Announcement!!! Then I started looking for Bay Area photographers. Whoa….that was SO much harder! Why was it easier to book a Paris photo shoot than one in our own area??? After months of Google searches and stalking Instagram, I found Aimee Pool Photography and completely fell head over heels in love with her beautiful use of light. I was stressing over how quickly my pregnancy was going by but she reassured me that the bigger the better when it comes to baby bumps! We actually got rained out the weekend that we were supposed to take these photos so by the time we got around to rescheduling my bump was quite a bit bigger & larger than I was really comfortable with! Aimee made me feel beautiful anyways.
I started at Aimee’s Scott’s Valley studio for hair, makeup, and to try on all of her gorgeous maternity dresses. I walked in having my heart set on a gauzy white number or a blue dress (for our baby boy), but when it came down to it this was the dress that called my name! We packed a back up white dress, but ended up not needing it! Then we headed out to Natural Bridges Beach in Santa Cruz where we met Ben. I headed there, confident in my ability to find it, only to have my phone completely die & my charger not work on my way there. Luckily there were state beach signs & I found my way! It was such a throw back to a time before such reliance on technology. I was not a fan.
These water photos were the last of the afternoon, but I am skipping to the best right away! They are my favorites and I know that not everyone reads all the way down to the end (guilty). I love the stunning rock formation and that bird strolling through our photo is the best!!!
Our afternoon took us strolling through the cliff side paths, down to the surf, and along the beach. It was a gorgeous day & the beach was way more packed than we had hoped for! A large group, maybe a company retreat, was occupying a big area near where we were taking photos and threatening to bounce volleyballs and frisbees into our shots. Every ounce of pregnancy hormones & protective instinct that was building inside me wanted to go rage against the group but Aimee & Ben kept a much more level head. It led to us getting the shot below. One of my favorites!!!!
The beach has always been my happy place. I strongly prefer the sunny beaches of Southern California and after so many cold days at our Northern California beaches, I forget just how lovely they can be. Just look at that soft sunlight on the water!
Stay tuned next week for our Newborn Photo Shoot!
