So the other week when I made the Organic Cauliflower with Dates & Pistachios dish, I wanted to toss it with some tahini sauce for extra flavor. I searched 4 different stores for some tahini sauce & came up empty handed every single time. So I figured, why not make my own!?! It is super easy to do. As in so easy, it was faster to make my own than it was to search the stores. You can do it in less than 10 minutes, in only 3 steps! If you are unfamiliar with tahini sauce, it is a vegan sauce made from ground sesame seeds. You can find it in popular dishes such as hummus, baba ghanoush and halvah. It is really great as a healthy alternative to traditional fatty salad dressings.
Step 1: Roast 1 cup of sesame seeds on a sheet pan in the oven at 350 degrees for 5 minutes, or until golden.
Step 2: Process toasted sesame seeds in a food processor until you get a crumbly, almost graham cracker like consistency.
Step 3: Add in 3 tablespoons of avocado (or olive) oil & continue to process. You can add more oil to help you reach your desired consistency.
And that’s it! You are now ready to pour it over everything! This was the first time I’ve ever made tahini sauce. I enjoy it’s nutty flavor mixed in with some of my favorite dishes at restaurants, but now that I’ve practiced making it myself, I think you will see it popping up in more dishes in the future. Next time I make this sauce, I want to add in some freshly roasted garlic. I think that it will blend smoothly in and pump up the flavor even more. What do you think?
