Whenever I am going to a party, the first thing that I think to bring are Bourbon Meatballs. Sweet bourbon sauce? It doesn’t get more Southern than that. Most parties are laden with carbs like chips and dip, bruscetta, and desserts. Bringing meatballs means that I get a high protien, low carb option. Plus this is one of my most requested dishes. I have given out this recipe more times than I can count! They are seriously amazing!
1 pound Bag Frozen Meatballs (make these ahead of time or I recommend using Aidells)
½ cup Ketchup
½ cups packed Brown Sugar
¼ cups Bourbon
1 teaspoon Fresh Lemon Juice
1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
Combine ketchup, brown sugar, bourbon, lemon juice, and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl and mix well.
Place your frozen meatballs into your crock pot.
Pour the whiskey sauce on top and stir to be sure that all meatballs are covered.
Now you have two choices: if you are serving them immediately, cook them on high for 1 hour, then cook them on low for 1 hour. If you you would like to let them simmer, then let them simmer overnight (or while you are at work) on low.
Serve them warm.
***Confession: I usually double this because they disappear so quickly!
So what party am I prepping for this time? The Oscars! They are this Sunday. I love watching the celebrities arrive in all of their gorgeous dresses. I try to keep up with the movies, but I have to admit….when the Oscars air, I usually haven’t even seen half of the movies that are nominated!
This year is especially important for us because my husband (a Character Effects artist for Dreamworks) worked on How to Train Your Dragon 2 which is nominated for an Oscar! Our fingers are crossed!
